Wills & Inheritance Tax Planning

Making a will is something we all put off doing and yet few of us appreciate the potentially dire consequences of doing so, particularly if we have dependants. If you die without making a will (intestate) the Government will control how your estate is distributed. We encourage all clients to make and then review their wills every 5 years.

We offer a range of standard wills for common usage or bespoke wills which will often be prepared following input from tax and accountancy experts.

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document which allows you to appoint one or more people you trust to manage your financial affairs. You can also use a Lasting Power of Attorney to appoint someone to make decisions about your welfare.

We advise clients with elderly relatives to get them to make LPA's so that the can look after their finances and and make decisions about their care. This should be done sooner rather than later as those relatives must have the mental capacity to make a LPA. Unfortunately it is not unusual for a situation to arise where by the time it is realised that a LPA is needed those relatives no longer have the capacity to make one.
